Adaptoys are accessible toys for people living with paralysis who have limited muscle function. They will be owned and licensed by digital marketing agency 360i, who is crowdfunding to create Adaptoys. Any developed Adaptoys will be donated to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis. To learn more about the Reeve Foundation, please visit reevefoundation.org. 360i also partnered with axios and tinygiant to bring this campaign to life.
360i partnered with the Reeve Foundation to ignite a global conversation and highlight the promise of technology to build accessible toys for people with disability. We have a shared mission, to enhance quality of life by empowering parents, grandparents and other family members with toys that allow them to fully participate. Some of the most important and treasured memories with families form through the act of playing. We want to make sure that all family members are able to join in on the fun and create meaningful moments with their families. If the fundraising goal is met, the Reeve Foundation will select individuals living with paralysis from the registry to receive the produced Adaptoys for free. To be considered, please include your information in our registry.
The creation of Adaptoys is contingent on meeting our fundraising goal. The toys will be crowdfunded, produced by third parties under the supervision of 360i and then donated to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. As soon as the fundraising goal is reached and the first 100 Adaptoy R/C Race Cars are ready to be produced, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation will select 100 eligible individuals from the registry. These toys will be distributed and shipped for free. To be eligible, you must be living with paralysis and we can only ship within the United States.
The toys will not be sold. Right now, Adaptoys are prototypes, meaning we are only able to produce and test a limited quantity.
As with any other new technology, we need to reach our financial goal so that we can invest in the following:
At that point, we will be able to start manufacturing the 100 Adaptoys R/C Race Cars and map out a strategy for the fulfillment and distribution to selected individuals from the registry. We estimate that after we reach our fundraising goal, this process might take up to 6 months.
If we don’t reach our goal for the initial 100 Adaptoy R/C Race Cars, all funds will be donated to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. Your contribution will still have an important and tangible impact to improve the quality of life for people living with paralysis.
We’ll keep raising funds to produce more toys. We will aim to improve research and development, as well as conduct tests and receive necessary legal advice to ensure the safety and proper distribution of future toys. Concurrently, we hope to have conversations with toy and technology manufactures to try to develop Adaptoys on a larger scale for mass distribution.
We don’t recommend anyone adapt their own toys. Additionally, 360i and the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation cannot accept any requests to adapt personal toys. These requests will not be answered.
We will aim to. The more donations we receive, the more toys we can possibly make. If it is not possible to make additional toys, then the funds will be donated to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.
These toys are intended for adults living with paralysis to play with their friends and families. Individuals living with paraplegia or with heightened control of their arms and hands are still eligible to register for the toys; however, they have been created for people with limited muscle function from the neck down. We recommend the toys for those 18-years and older.
At this moment all resources and efforts are being invested in the research and development of the Adaptoy R/C Race Cars. After we develop and distribute these cars, we will observe the demand and discuss the possibility of producing other types of toys. Our mission is to ignite a conversation about the void that exists around accessible toys for parents and other family members to fully engage with their children. We hope others are inspired by this campaign and help us in producing Adaptoys on a larger scale.
Yes, we are. Our hope is that between the public reaction and results from this campaign, we will inspire toy manufacturers to join forces with 360i and the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation so that we have the resources necessary to produce these toys on a larger scale. Everyone deserves to play with their loved ones but so many people and even companies are unaware of the restrictions and challenges that exist as a result of paralysis. This is an incredible opportunity to raise the volume on this critical issue and make sure all individuals can play without limits.
These toys are recommended for people living with paralysis with limited muscle function and above 18 years old.
If you are selected to receive one of the initial 100 Adaptoys R/C Race Cars and your toy does not function upon delivery, please contact and we will do our best to swap out your toy at no cost to you.
please contact if you have any other questions. We cannot answer or accept requests to modify personal toys.
